Back to profiles
I am counsel in the Real Estate group in the Paris office. I work primarily on real estate transactions – in particular asset deals, real estate company share sales and purchases.

I joined Clifford Chance in 2014 after five years at a major French law firm. I studied at the Universities of Paris 2 Panthéon Assas and Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, where I graduated in Business and Economic Law (Droit des affaires et de l'économie), and Banking and Finance Law (Droit bancaire et financier).

The firm has a fantastic reputation in all areas of legal practice including real estate, for which it is regularly ranked in bands 1 and 2 of the Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 guide. This was originally how I came to hear about the firm.

But it was in fact my interview process – during which I was introduced to every member of the Real Estate group – that convinced me to join the team. The department is now composed of two partners, two Counsel and eight associates – a combination that enables us to advise on major transactions, but still retain a "small team" spirit.

My work

The most exciting transaction I have worked on this year has been the acquisition of a pan European portfolio of logistics assets, which is reportedly the second-largest European real estate transaction on record. I also advised on the acquisition of "prime" properties located on the avenue des Champs-Elysées and rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, by way of a share deal and asset deal respectively.

The best thing about my job

The firm has the privilege of being entrusted with high-quality transactions by clients with whom it has, over the years, developed extremely strong bonds of trust. One of the guiding factors in my decision to pursue my career at the firm is the opportunity to maintain and develop this trust, working in a team to devise pragmatic solutions that protect our clients' interests.

What motivates me

What struck me was the approachability of the partners, Counsel and associates – all of whom are dedicated to delivering an excellent quality of service, even when dealing with the most challenging cases.

The firm also fosters a positive, fulfilling work environment, promoting a strong team spirit and supporting lawyers at every stage of their career.

The most rewarding experience

In 2015, we advised China's sovereign wealth fund, China Investment Corporation, on the acquisition of a portfolio comprising shopping centres located across France and Belgium by way of a share deal. It involved some 15 companies located in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, costing over €1 billion.

We worked hand-in-hand with the real estate, corporate and tax teams of our offices in these four jurisdictions, where the closing took place simultaneously. The Real Estate group in Paris was responsible for coordinating the various teams covering the drafting, execution and delivery of countless documents. It cost us a few sleepless nights, but the result was highly rewarding.

My advice

The first piece of advice I would offer someone considering a career in law is to always strive for personal improvement. Our profession allows us to continue learning throughout our careers – an opportunity we should make the most of.

For instance, when performing legal research, it is crucial to seek the rationale behind certain rules and legislation in order to better understand them. Rather than simply completing the assignment at hand, aim to problem-solve and endeavour to exceed expectations.
