The experience

Our summer program presents a unique opportunity for ambitious law students to work directly with our team of Partners and Associates in our US practice on a wide variety of matters arising throughout the Asia Pacific region. Summer Law Clerks will experience living and working in Hong Kong as a true member of our team; the work is generally billable providing the opportunity to see what all aspects of life as a leading international capital markets lawyer is like. Aside from billable work there will be opportunities to be involved in our pro-bono activities as well. Throughout the course of the summer, we host a number of events designed to introduce our clerks to our lawyers and the city of Hong Kong, including our landmark events to promote diversity and inclusion. The smaller size of our program allows us to tailor the experience so our clerks have a thorough understanding of the work we do, the clients we serve and the working culture of the firm.

The work

Our US practice in Hong Kong advises a wide range of clients from global investment banks, top-tier private equity sponsors, major corporates, sovereigns and others on a wide range of transactional work related to securities and covers matters arising throughout Asia Pacific, primarily in China. We have a broad market leading practice that is primarily focused:

Equity Capital Markets – We advise many large and mid-sized IPOs and secondary offerings with a particular emphasis on Hong Kong listings. We are top ranked (Tier 1) in ECM in Asia Pacific and globally.

Debt Capital Markets – We advise across the DCM spectrum, including investment grade and sovereign issuances as well as lower rated issues. We are top ranked (Tier 1) in DCM in Asia Pacific and globally.

High Yield – We advise investment banks, top-tier private equity sponsors and major corporates in connection with offerings of high yield debt securities in capital or acquisition financing transactions.

The details

We seek to have an exclusive summer class of two Summer Law Clerks and our program typically runs for 10 weeks, from May to the end of July. Summer Law Clerk salaries are at the New York rate. As the summer program is run by and for the U.S. group in Asia Pacific, you will sit in our Hong Kong office, however offers of permanent employment may be in any one of our Asia Pacific offices (Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai or Singapore).

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate split-summers. Our Hong Kong HR department will be able to assist Summer Law Clerks in all aspects of coordinating their summer including arranging housing and obtaining visas.
