United Kingdom

Our recruitment process is just as much an opportunity for you to find out about us, as it is for us to get to know you

Our recruitment process

Our recruitment process is straightforward. It is aimed to be a two-way conversation that will allow you to learn more about the role and the firm, and will be a chance for us to chat to you about your experience and assess your capabilities for the role.

The range of opportunities available at the firm means there are a variety of recruitment methods and approaches. Your recruitment specialist will describe the exact process for the role you have applied for. Generally speaking, the process will involve these steps:

All vacancies in the UK are advertised in one place, on our careers portal. To apply online you will need an up-to-date CV. Each vacancy is managed by one of our recruitment specialists, who will be your main contact throughout the recruitment process.

Application screening
Every application is personally reviewed by our team of experienced recruiters. They work in partnership with our business to make sure they thoroughly understand the skills, knowledge and experience our business needs. If you meet the criteria for the role, the partners or hiring manager will review your CV before a decision is taken about the next steps. If you are unsuccessful at this stage, you will receive an email from one of our team.

Video interviewing
For some roles, to help speed up the recruitment process, we may ask you to undertake a video interview. All you will need to complete the interview is a video-enabled device such as a computer, laptop, tablet or a smart phone. You will have 30 seconds to read each question and prepare your answer. The process typically takes no longer than 20 minutes to complete.

Face-to-face interviews
If you are invited for a face-to-face interview these take place at our offices. Typically, you will meet with two people in the first stage, and another two people in the second stage. Your interviewers are usually the hiring manager or hiring partner, senior team members and recruitment specialists. You will meet people who you will be working with should you be successful.

Interviews will focus on your professional experience and capabilities in relation to the vacancy you have applied for, and also your personal qualities with regards to how you approach tasks and working in teams.

Following a face-to-face interview, all applicants are given feedback. This is typically delivered verbally by the recruitment specialist who is handling the vacancy.

For some roles we may ask you to complete psychometric or skills-based assessments. We might also ask you to consider a case study or prepare a presentation related to the role you are interviewing for. Assessments will either be conducted in person or online, depending on the role you’ve applied for.

Offer process
If you get an offer from the firm, you'll be called by the recruitment specialist who will lay out the offer terms, and an offer pack will be sent to you. As you progress through the offer process, your dedicated recruitment specialist will be by your side every step of way, and will give you as much support and information as you need. As part of this, we may be able to offer relocation assistance and visa support, if you need to relocate to take up the role.

If you have any questions during the recruitment process, please contact the team directly.

Adjustments & Disability: Here to help

Diversity and inclusiveness is at the heart of the firm’s culture. Here we provide details on how we can help you during the application process.
Application process

We are able to make reasonable adjustments within our application process to ensure that you have the best chance of success. We understand that there’s not a “one size fits all” approach to adjustments so our team will work with you individually to understand more about your requirements.

We understand that it can be difficult to talk about a disability, however it may be beneficial for you to be open about your disability so that we can support you through the process and ensure you have the right level of adjustments. Any conversations we have with you regarding disability and adjustments will be treated confidentially.

Attending an event

We run a number of events at our offices, on campus and online. You can let us know of any adjustments you’ll need on the day by emailing uk.recruitment@cliffordchance.com and someone from the team will be in touch to discuss this with you.

Talk to us

If you want to know more, please contact us on 0207 006 3003 between Monday to Friday, 9:30am-5.0pm UK time, or via uk.recruitment@cliffordchance.com.
