Lawyer, Real Estate

“I feel I am constantly developing, learning and evolving as a lawyer and a person.”

Back to profiles

I first joined Clifford Chance in 2008 as a paralegal in the real estate department for a three-month internship which I repeated again in 2010. In January 2011 - after my graduation from the Faculty of law at the Charles University in Prague (and after my studies at the University of Salzburg) - I was admitted as a junior lawyer for a three-year traineeship to the real estate department. Now I a senior associate primarily in the real estate practices, and I was also regularly involved in the corporate M&A transactions during my traineeship.

Why I joined?

During my time in the European Youth Parliament, I was approached by one of my former colleagues to try an internship in the Prague office which sounded very exciting. During this internship working as a paralegal, I came to realise that the environment was professional and friendly, and this made me feel that I would fit in perfectly. When I got the offer to become a part of Clifford Chance as a junior lawyer in 2011, I did not hesitate to accept. What attracted me in particular was the type of work the firm is usually engaged in and the team of people I work with, included skilled business professionals that help to ease the everyday workload of the lawyers.

My advice

If you do your job properly by delivering excellent legal advice, quality work on time, and behaving in a friendly and professional manner to the clients and people around you, you will be successful and you will enjoy your career at Clifford Chance.

The work

I feel I am constantly developing, learning and evolving as a lawyer and a person. The firm allows you many opportunities to develop, and because the work is never the same, there is no chance to be bored by routine, and the work keeps me interested and motivated. The work and clients stimulates and challenges me, which is another reason why - after almost seven years - I am still enthusiastic about the job.

My most rewarding experience so far

Recently, Clifford Chance advised one of our real estate clients, a fund manager, on the sale of properties which included 11 shopping centres in the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Romania. The market considered it to be the most complex, predominantly retail, real-estate transaction to have been completed in the relatively short history of commercial real estate in the CEE region. I was managing the whole process on our side which required cooperation across all six jurisdictions and therefore, for me, it has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding transactions of my career.

It had it all: complex, pan-regional due diligence; multi-faceted financing arrangements; anti-monopoly clearance in a number of jurisdictions; and, above all, a successful close.
