Where ambitious
minds meet

Your journey with us can begin before University. We'll provide you with valuable experience that will help you prepare for the journey ahead.

Clifford Chance is proud to be a founding member of PRIME. Through PRIME, Clifford Chance is committed to ensuring that anyone who wants to enter the world of law has an equal chance to do so, regardless of their background. For many years, obtaining work experience in the legal sector depended largely on who you know rather than what you know. PRIME members have made a commitment to change this by providing fair access to work experience schemes.

Our PRIME placement is an introduction to a career in law and is open to students from state schools who have the academic potential to be a successful lawyer but may not necessarily have opportunities to access the legal profession.

You'll spend four days at our Canary Wharf headquarters, where you'll meet and interact with professionals from every level of our business – from trainees and recently qualified associates to partners and recruitment specialists.

The varied and carefully structured programme is designed to help participants understand what a career in law involves and what it offers. It's an exceptional opportunity to learn about the industry from one of its best-known firms, and we want to hear from people who'll seize it with both hands.

In your time with us, you'll be introduced to the areas of law in which we practice, and hear about opportunities outside of corporate law from a visiting barrister.

You'll also benefit from putting presentation skills into practice and complete mock interviews with one-on-one feedback – useful in whatever career path you decide to pursue.

And it does not just end there. We will keep in regular contact with you following the scheme and you wil be invited back for events and a reunion before you head off for university. We have seen candidates that have been on PRIME go on to secure places on our Clifford Chance SPARK scheme so if you're interested in reading more about that then click here.

If you are unable to secure a place on PRIME - either due to eligibility, availability, or an unsuccessful application – we are also running 3 open days which are listed on the open day section of this website.

Our PRIME participants should:

  • attend a state (non-fee paying) school
  • be in Year 12-13 (England and Wales); S5-6 (Scotland); or Lower or Upper Sixth (Northern Island)
  • either be the first generation in your immediate family to attend university, or be (or have been) eligible for free school meals

Breaking down barriers

Hear from some of our PRIME alumni that have gone on to secure training contracts with us. They share their fears, aspirations, and experiences with you to bring to life the importance of our widening access initiative. If you are in year 12 or 13 and think you have the drive and motivation needed for a career in law, please apply.

Need to know what to expect?

There is so much for you to learn and take away from being on one of our PRIME schemes. Here Laura runs through exactly what is on offer.
