Where ambitious
minds meet

We will do our utmost to foster your development
from the very beginning.

We are very proud of our Trainee Induction programme. It's an important part of our commitment to ensuring you start life as a trainee with all the tools and techniques you need for life at the firm. This three-day programme has been designed with essential input from key stakeholders in the firm – from the London Managing Partner, Michael Bates, to trainees who have been through the learning process themselves.

The induction programme provides a combination of essential training and interactive learning designed not only to develop key skills and working practices, but to give you a clear idea as to how your role as a trainee fits into the London office and the wider Clifford Chance strategy. It combines practical learning, insight and skills for you to be able to start your Training Contract and practical experience with all the information you need.

Seat allocation

Helen Martin, one of our Graduate Development Specialists, talks you through the process of choosing your practice area seats and the continuous support that you will receive along the way.

Career Development Meetings

Regular feedback is vital to your growth and development. There are meetings with your supervisors, Monitoring Partners and the Graduate Development Team built into the structure of your training contract to ensure you are staying on track and receiving the support that you need along the way.

Performance Optimisation Programme (POP)

As part of our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our employees, we have developed the unique, award-winning Performance Optimisation Programme (POP). As well as being delivered via face-to-face presentations, this unique tool has also been designed for you to access via an app. The support starts from your LLM CLP and is available to you throughout your career.

Client and international secondments

A quarter of our trainees are on secondment at any one time. To hear about some of our lawyers international seat experiences, then take a look at our profiles. We think it is important for you to get a sense of our cross-border, collaborative culture. If you want to experience a truly global firm, join us.

Community support and pro bono

From voluntary legal advice centres to practising reading and arithmetic with children in our local schools and communities, there are several ways in which you can be involved with our well-established community support and pro bono programmes. There are also secondment opportunities that many of our trainees go on to experience.

The qualification process can be a daunting one and it is important to us that you are aware of the support available from the outset. Conversations start early so you can start to take control of your future from the beginning of your training contract.

Clifford Chance Academy

The Academy provides integrated training and continuous professional education to support you throughout your career.

The Academy delivers technical and business skills training to everyone in the firm, in person and online, and for the Asia Pacific region this is centred around our 'training hub' in Singapore. We emphasise continuous professional development at every stage of your career, so training is available to all – trainees, graduates, lawyers, partners and business service teams alike.

The training and mentoring you receive will ensure that you are up-to-date with legal developments in the areas where you work and also that you develop business skills such as time management, communication and client relationship skills.
