Hannah Tucker (she/her)

SECONDED TO THE CLIFFORD CHANCE PARIS OFFICE

A particular highlight of my secondment was being able to attend and assist at a week-long in-person arbitration hearing.

Back to profiles

During my Training Contract, was seconded to the Paris Arbitration team. I previously completed seats in SABRE, L&DR and Finance X.

I was keen to gain more contentious experience, and the Paris Arbitration secondment presented the perfect opportunity. This was particularly the case since Paris is a major centre of international arbitration and home to the world's leading arbitral institution.

Having sat in some of the largest departments in London, it was refreshing to work in a smaller team. This allowed me forge strong working relationships – for instance, I've worked closely with both of the partners in the team. I've also had greater responsibility and been entrusted with more complex tasks than in previous seats such as preparing draft witness statements and sections of submissions. This is good preparation for becoming a newly qualified solicitor in the London L&DR team.

A particular highlight of my secondment was being able to attend and assist at a week-long in-person arbitration hearing. Also, the international nature of the work has meant that I have expanded my professional network across the globe, having worked with colleagues from Milan, Madrid, Frankfurt and Washington, to name a few.

Paris itself is a great city to live in, with excellent food and a buzzing atmosphere. Since the rest of France is only ever a train ride away, I have also been able to explore other parts of the country. On the social side, there is a big contingent of trainees from numerous law firms on secondment to Paris, which means there are always things going on at the weekends.

My secondment to Paris has undoubtedly been the highlight of my Training Contract, and I will come away with both broader experience and improved skills.
