Where Ambitious
minds meet

I rotated through Global Financial Markets (GFM) and Litigation and Dispute Resolution before taking a secondment to London with the GFM team for my third seat. I was able to further my transactional experience, liaise with other offices and sharpen my drafting and project/transaction management skills – this really assisted with my transition from graduate to associate later on.

While my secondment coincided with the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the experience was unbelievably amazing and I enjoyed every minute of it – I experienced world-class training, learnt from a supportive team and made really meaningful connections with my colleagues, many of whom I still talk to regularly. I completed my fourth seat in the Corporate practice in Sydney where I assisted on things such as undertaking due diligence on companies, research tasks and incorporating companies.

Once I completed the Graduate programme, I settled in GFM because I had such a positive experience. I felt that every member of the team had taken the time to mentor and teach me, explaining concepts and contexts of transactions, documents and even why certain clauses were included – I appreciated the level of support and mentoring while still having a sense of autonomy with my work.

My advice

Get involved in university societies, talk to people in the industry, find yourself a mentor and seize any opportunity for work experience, whether legally focused or not.
