Where bright

Hong Kong

I knew that Clifford Chance with its global network would be able to offer that to me. The firm is known for its robust recruitment process and although I was apprehensive about it, I decided to apply and submitted my written application.

Afterwards I had a pre-recorded video interview and then a face-to-face interview with a partner, an associate and a graduate recruitment team member. I really felt like the firm was interested in getting to know me as an individual and I was able to get a good sense of the firm’s culture too.

As an intern I rotated through Corporate M&A and Litigation, and I was surprised to receive client work as soon as I arrived and felt energised when I realised I could apply what I had learnt during Corporate Law at university to many of my tasks. Aside from client work, as interns we were also asked to help prepare research materials on LGBTQ+ rights which was subsequently used for internal communications for ACCELERATE which is our gender parity affinity group and Arcus, our LGBTQ+ network. I quickly realised the amount of effort puts into building the culture of the firm and creating a positive impact in society.

My advice

Approach everything with an open mind because you never know where it will take you.
